f my house caught fire I would save myself and anyone in there and I would try and save all the diaries and letters that I have collected as everything else is replaceable. And I would sit on the lawn watching my house burn and record it in my diary."
- "That's just the kind of thing Pippin would say". - "I like to have a tidy kitchen but I am not too bothered about my room or living room etc. My theory is that when it's untidy I feel comfortable, like it feels lived in, and its only gonna get untidy if you tidy it so wait, wait, wait..."
- On how he gets along with Elijah: "Elijah's a cool guy. I think the thing that linked Elijah and I together was that we have an intense geek-like love for music. We can both sit around and talk for hours and hours about Coldplay, Eminem and Radiohead."
From the start of TTT EE dvd cast commentary:
Dom: You go first, Bill.
Billy: No, you.
Dom: Billy, you start speaking first.
Billy: No, no, you Dom. Go on, go on.
Billy: Who started last time?
Dom: I think you did.
Billy: Well, it's your turn then, go.
On Collectormania 4: "It was mad, absolutely mad!"
On Collectormania 4: "I could not believe the amount of people that turned up. Most were ... um ... yeah ... girls. Most went bright red, that was great. I love girls. There was this one girl whose voice got higher and higher and higher [imitates her] as she was speaking to me. I tried to calm her down but I think I was making it worse."
Introducing himself at Collectormania 4 Q&A Session: "...I'm Orlando Bloom, but I've had a bit of a facial readjustment."
On stage at Comic Con 2003: "I'm available for Bar Mitzvahs, weddings, and female parties."
Playing the ROTK PS2 game at Comic Con 2003: "Can I kill Elijah?"
Playing the ROTK PS2 game at Comic Con 2003: "Where are the bad guys? Come on, bad guys, come on!"
Meeting stiff opposition whilst playing the ROTK PS2 game at Comic Con 2003: "Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish!"
Playing the ROTK PS2 game at Comic Con 2003: "Hey, these guys are hard core."
With an air of nonchalance, when asked by a teasing crowd at Comic Con what was going on with his not very successful technique whilst playing the ROTK PS2 game: "Nothing, nothing, nothing, just chilling!"
On Merry and Pippin's introductory FOTR scene (from FOTR DVD cast commentary): "Now hang on. This is the entrance to end all entrances. Oh my god... If that is not two movie stars."
I'd love to play a gangster but I think people might say I looked a bit too young and cheeky to play a character who'd just blown someones head off!"
On Lord of the Rings: "I won't miss having to stand for two hours at 4:30 a.m. and having freezing cold glue applied to my feet. I won't miss two-hour drives to work or long, long, long, days sitting in my trailer waiting... waiting... waiting. I won't miss glue in my ears. But I would do it all again tomorrow."
On Lord of the Rings: "We all had such a great time together, and we wanted something to remember the experience. At first, we talked about a ring, and then we got on to the tattoo. It became a group project. We rang up this guy who had a tattoo parlor that was closed on Sunday - our only day off - so we convinced him to open up for us, and we had a real party, taking photos of each other and everything."
On Merry's love of apples (from FOTR DVD cast commentary): "Yeah, I just thought, I always wanted Merry to keep eating and eating and eating."
The lovely Liv is here now. I am convincing her to go out for a quick bite. I'm sure she can't resist." (about Liv Tyler)
"Went home and tried to make a cake, but the oven broke so I ate raw cake mix, watched TV, felt sick, and went to Billy's."
"Yesterday Billy and I got picked up at 5 am and were driven to Mount Cook for a scene where we get buried in snow. We rode down the slopes on shovels."
"Viggo left a long message on my machine. He leaves these kind of stream-of-consciousness messages on your machine, like, "Yeah, this is Viggo, I'm eating chicken, I'm wearing blue trousers, the sun is shining..." I always save the messages."
"The Moria scenes were physically demanding. But some were easy, because they really happened. Like when the Hobbits were running away from the Black Rider, we were literally running from a guy on an eight-foot horse. You really are scared, and you really do run fast!"
On Elijah's "pressure gas" (from FOTR DVD cast commentary): "First day of filming. Yeah, Elijah let out a little tommy squeaker."
"I kinda feel a little bit neglected you know. I've been here for a year. I don't get any calls for me. I don't get any of this young hot Hollywood, you know, stuff. I mean look at me, I mean come on! Are you kidding? This kid is on fire!"
On the scene where the Hobbits are crouched under a log, hiding from the Ringwraith (from FOTR DVD cast commentary): "I don't know what's happening in the moment here, but I look really handsome."
On acquiring a HUGE splinter whilst filming the Buckleberry Ferry scene (from FOTR DVD cast commentary): "I acquired a very, very painful splinter when we did the Buckleberry Ferry thing... I was nearly hospitalised." Billy: "He was in tears, he was sweating, he almost fainted. And it was about the size of a --". Dom: "A house". Billy: [laughing] "It was like half the size of a matchstick." Dom: "Yeah, but I think it was made of platinum or something."
"They're boxer shorts. Make sure you get that right. I don't want anyone thinking I wear anything else."
On Elijah Wood: (from DVD cast commentary): "I've seen him [Elijah] go down three flights of stairs, you know, like dudundun, dudundun, dudundun, and then get up, like 'Whoo!'"
Talking about whether Elijah's eyes were digitally enhanced in the LOTR (from DVD cast commentary): "They did have to mess around with your eyes a little bit though, cause you are quite cross-eyed in real life aren't you?"
On the practical jokes they played on the set of LOTR: "[giggles] Elijah and I were the worst. We teamed up against Orlando and Sean Bean. It was the hobbits versus the humans, seeing who could trash each other's trailer the most! They scored the first points by taping up the whole of my trailer with tape one night so I couldn't get in and they also covered everything on the inside of it with shaving foam."
On their revenge for these incidents: "[giggles again] Me and Elijah made soem fake dogs poo and covered the stairs to Orlando's trailer with it. We also sprayed all over the inside of his trailer with shaving foam and then squirted hairspray all over the taps so everything was sticky!"
"You should definitely put that in the article that I'm single, and I like women!"
On the film script that he and Billy were (are?) apparently in the process of writing: "It'll be funnier than a penguin playing a banjo."
On Billy's hair: "There's something very interesting with his hair. When he's in a good mood, he spikes it all up so he looks like a complete lunatic."
On the troubles in Iraq: "The term "good versus evil" is a confusing thing for me because I don't know if the lines can be drawn that easily. They’re kind of blurred. I'm sure there are different countries around the world that have considered both Billy and myself's country evil. It's just an upsetting kind of world to live in. I've never really experienced this kind of conflict before. I've always lived in a peaceful kind of time. It is confusing and it is upsetting. But I don't really know if the term "good versus evil" is appropriate. It's just two different cultures clashing together... Trying to get everybody to just calm down would be a great way forward."
On Merry and Pippin over indulging on Lembas bread (from FOTR DVD cast commentary): "Obviously Merry and Pippin have filled their stomachs with Lembas bread and I think they've both come to the realization that they think their stomachs are just going to explode within the next hour or so, the last hour of their life. Very, very funny."
Merry is the sharpest and wittiest of the hobbits, he's very intelligent, quick thinking and very observant. At the start of the movie he is in the prime of his life, very happy, very content. He has a big fat tummy and has led a good life. We find Merry not wanting to leave his home at all.
